State Finalists for Design and Rookie Awards

Our E&S rookie First Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Team traveled to the State Championship at Penn State College of Technology in Williamsport, PA Saturday, Feb. 25th.  With fierce competition by 30 teams, some from New Jersey, Delaware, and New York our team qualified as one of three finalists for both the Design Award and the Judges' Award.  Congratulations on their efforts and persistence throughout the entire FTC robotics season since November.  The team looks forward to competing and preparing again for next year.

The following students on our team, called the 'Tech Heroes', attended the trip to Williamsport: Seniors Eric Smalls and Brandon Brinson, Juniors Cevan Noell, Kasimir Braxton, Andrea Flemings, Josh Case, Jaime Scott and Freshman Alisia Flemings, Josh Neilson, Andrew Chek, Joseph Capizzi, along with Advisor Mr. Koehler.  Sophomores Stephen Pettus and Antonio Williams could not attend.

The PTC Design Award recognizes design elements of the robot that are both functional and aesthetic.  All successful robots have innovative design aspects however the PTC Design Award is presented to teams that incorporate industrial design elements into their solution.  These elements could simplify the robot giving it a clean look, decorate the robot, or otherwise express the creativity of the team. The winning design should not compromise the practical operation of the robots but compliment its purpose.

The Rookie (Judges') Award recognizes rookie teams who overcame obstacles to competitively perform.
