Greetings STEM & Robotics Community,
We've had another great robotics season in Philadelphia! The students, coaches, mentors, and school community are excited about these programs, and we continue to make strides toward building more and more STEM professionals. We continue to have a strong presence in the FIRST LEGO League Program hosted by the GRASP Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, we piloted a new "meet week" competition during the FIRST Tech Challenge Program in partnership with Villanova University, our teams are making new strides in FIRST Robotics Competition, and we continue to be involved in BEST Robotics sponsored by the Wolverine Hub of Grove City College.
As this year is coming to a close and we prepare for what is sure to be another great year, we wanted to bring the robotics community together to celebrate your participation and accomplishments. With everything that is happening in our schools and the District as a whole, we're especially proud of the time, effort, and perseverance everyone has shown.
The STEM Programs Division at the School District of Philadelphia is hosting ROBOMANIA! at West Philadelphia Promise Academy on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 from 10am-2pm. The purpose of this event is three-fold:
1)Exhibit the robotics platforms our students have been involved in such as Jr.FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), BEST Robotics, SeaPerch, and Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE), for the purpose of informing the community as well as other schools & organizations that would like to get involved.
2) Host workshops and trainings for current robotics teams in preparation for next years program. These workshops will be around general strategies and tips for success.
3) Recognize every teams involvement in robotics this year as well as highlight some of the successes we have had in each program. Among the awards given will be Coach of the Year and Mentor of the Year.
Please confirm you and your teams attendance by Thursday, May 30th. This event cannot happen without all of you. We will also need some FLL, FTC, and FRC teams to scrimmage during the exhibition portion of the event so please let us know if you're willing and able to participate.
Sincerely,
The Philadelphia School District STEM Team
