Good Afternoon STEM educator,
My name is Fatima Conteh and I am the Program Coordinator of the DragonsTeach program at Drexel University. DragonsTeach is a new Drexel University initiative designed to address the national need for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teachers by offering STEM majors the opportunity to experience teaching and obtain secondary teaching certification alongside their degree (www.drexel.edu/dragonsteach).
I am contacting you to invite you and your students to our “Engineers in Service” event on Monday, January 19, 2015 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) from 9:00 am- 3:00 pm in Bossone Research Center. This event is dedicated to exposing high-school students and undergraduate students to noteworthy engineers that have incorporated service into their field and to revealing the variety of STEM based careers/industries. Your students will be given the opportunity to listen to, build, and network with STEM professionals and STEM majors on the graduate and undergraduate levels in an event filled with exciting presentations and collaborative activities. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided and the materials that your students help develop at this event will be donated to a local Philadelphia school!
I am currently a graduating senior at Drexel University majoring in Communications with a minor in Marketing and a Central High School graduate. I understand the need for qualified STEM teachers in Philadelphia schools and I believe that your students will learn valuable information and make useful connections by attending. Additionally, this event can be used as an extra-credit opportunity for your students as an added incentive!
Please feel to email or call me for further details or if any questions/concerns arise. Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing you in January!
